5 Skin Care Ingredients to Beware of

We all want a flawless skin, but not at the cost of its natural health. For this, be wary of the harmful ingredients in cosmetics. Find a list of these ingredients below.

Get in the habit of checking for the ingredient list before you buy a skin-care product. Most of them have chemical based ingredients that can damage your skin in the long run.

Here are 5 skin-care Ingredients to avoid:

Parabens
Butylparaben and Methylparaben are common types of parabens used in cosmetic products. These chemicals are frequently used in moisturizers and deodorants. They can accelerate the growth of breast tumors and cancer.

Triclosan
This is an ingredient widely used in antibacterial soaps, detergents, cleansers and anti-aspirants. The substance is placed in the category of pesticides and considered a harmful cosmetic ingredient. This can not only have negative impact on human health, but may even harm the environment.

Polyethylene Glycol
The substance is derived from the same chemical that is used to prepare anti-freeze. It is able to penetrate the skin and its toxic effects may make you feel nauseated. Although regulated amounts of the chemical are used in cosmetics and medicines, one needs to check if these have been pre-tested for safety or not.

Formaldehyde-producing preservatives
Imidazolidinyl, methenamine and Diaxolidinyl urea are common formaldehyde releasing preservatives. These are often used in skin moisturizers and hair products. Formaldehyde is a human carcinogen that can cause cancer.

Sodium Lauryl Sulfates
This is a sulfate-based ingredient containing sodium lauryl ether sulfate. This substance is mostly used in shampoos and shower gels.
